I have always worked on the basis with the servers being hosts only required software should be installed to lessen the attach surface and chance of things going wrong. With regards to WBEM in the past I initially tried with just WBEM but then PRTG SNMP sensors wouldn't report statuses so then installing the agents allowed them to report status. I will give it another go tomorrow on a test server though.
