Hello everyone! I've a problem with this HP Color Laserjet 5500dn I'm repairing.

Apparently, someone tried to update this printer's firmware but the updating wasn't completed, the printer hung, and all the buttons failed to work. They couldn't make it work anymore so it was given to me.

What I did then was to connect it via parallel connection so I could do the updating myself. The printer acknowledged the receipt of the update. When I read the 'read-me file' of the update, it said there that the printer should AUTOMATICALLY RESTART after 3 minutes because of the update, but 10 minutes later, it still hadn't restarted so I restarted it manually thinking that it hung.

When I opened the printer, there was no more display on the screen, and I couldn't determine whether it's READY or not. I think it broke because I restarted it manually. Could I have damaged the formatter? What d'ya think? Thanks in advance for the replies.:D. Yeah you're going to have to replace the formatter to fix this, you didn't damage it, the update that hung originally for the person before you got it may have did the damage. Some newer printers can take a good 5 minutes to go through the update & reboot, some people just don't have the patience to wait it out & reboot it themselves which will damage the formatter.

Reset-tool Epson Px700w Tinte on this page. However I once had a smaller monochrome laser hang on me during an update through parallel connection, it kicked up a 68 error half way through updating & just sat there for 15 minutes so I tried resending the update after powering off & on, then it finished on its own but came back up to a 68 error again, so I just ordered a new formatter to fix it everything. Your formatter # is C9661-69002 exchange or C9661-67902 New (5500 duplex versions only, won't fit a 5550). Thanks for the replies guys. There's another dilemma. According to the back of the printer, where the serial number and the product number are, the Product Number is Q3715A WHICH IS DESIGNATED TO HP COLORLASERJET 5550DN. Whereas, at the front, it says HP 5500DN.
